Identification of genomic
features of SARS-CoV-2, and human genetic factors impacting the COVID19 pandemic
holds the potential to rapidly offer important information that can be used to
manage the outbreak by finding genetic markers for COVID-19 progression in
Bahraini population, and biological insights that might point to potential drug
targets. In this project, we aim to achieve the following aims:
1. Analyzing the Genomic Diversity of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus (Sars-Cov-2) in Bahrain.
The findings of these analyses will be helpful to design and evaluate diagnostic tests, to track and trace the ongoing outbreak, to predict future outbreak and its pattern, and to identify potential national intervention options in Bahrain.
2. Identification of the
Human Genetic Determinants of COVID-19 Susceptibility, Severity and Outcomes in
Bahraini Population
2.a
Identify genes, pathways, and possible mechanisms related to COVID-19
susceptibility and severity in Bahraini population, and suitable to target with
therapeutics.
2.b Identify monogenic
errors underlying severe forms of COVID-19.
2.c
Identify monogenic determinants of resistance to COVID-19 infection.
3. Developing Screening Test for COVID-19 Susceptibility, Severity and
Resistance for Bahraini Population
4.
Developing Bahraini Population Variation Database
